Albemarle School Board schedules meeting on independent investigation

Under consideration

The Albemarle County School Board will hold a special meeting August 4 to discuss an independent investigation into the district’s handling of abuse allegations and staff misconduct. The meeting will be held at 10am in Room 241 of the Albemarle County Office Building.

Per a July 21 announcement, the meeting’s focus will be on the “scope, cost, and structure” of a potential independent investigation.

“This work will be defined in coordination with outside legal counsel to ensure it does not interfere with any active law enforcement investigation,” reads an excerpt from the announcement. “We know families want clarity, and we’re moving as quickly as we can while doing this responsibly.”

The first day of school for ACPS students is August 12.

Upgrade

According to a July 22 release, the Elk Hill Charlottesville School and Family Center has purchased 321 Hillsdale Dr. for $3.4 million. The private day school for K-12 special education students plans to centralize the operations of three of its current locations to the new site prior to the start of the upcoming school year. The move will reportedly allow Elk Hill to increase its enrollment and house all of its community-based programming under one roof.
