Blue Moon on Pitchfork, Nanook of the North at Random Row [VIDEO]

Things currently keeping Feedback rock-upied:

  • The Staunton News Leader has an article about third-year UVA art student Andrew Salmon, who won the German Embassy’s "Freedom Without Walls" competition centered around the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and received a free trip to Germany for his efforts. Read the piece for, among other things, Salmon’s travel itinerary.
  • Random Row Books proprietor/book maestro Ryan DeRamus tells us he’ll screen the documentary Nanook of the North this Friday at 7pm for free. Nanook is a silent documentary about a family in the Arctic, and is one of those classic American filmmaking documents that you can probably catch sooner at Random Row than you can if you ordered it from Netflix today. Observe:

Speaking of classic filmmaking documents, here’s one from our New Year’s issue, in which Quentin Walker of IllVille Crew shares his hangover cure and proves himself to be ready for his close-up. Catch IllVille tonight at Rapture; they’re playing two sets, at 10:30pm and 11:50pm, with a middle set by Dubsettors. Local booking agent Jeyon Falsini had this to say about the show via e-mail: "Tonight’s going to be epic, one for the record books. We’re going to have to gut every piece of furniture in the place just to fit people in. People playing pool are going to be like, ‘Hey, bring that back!’"
