Yet another candidate has entered the run for the Samuel Miller District seat on the Board of Supervisors. Batesville resident Lucia Phinney had filed papers to run as a Democrat. Sally Thomas, current Supervisor for the district, recently announced her retirement after 16 years of service.
Phinney, who has been on UVA’s architecture faculty since 1981, has resided in Batesville for 28 years. She holds a professional degree in Architecture and Landscape Architecture from UVA.
“In my professional life, pretty much every day, I deal with issues facing the county,“ she tells C-VILLE.

Phinney says that in the last five years she has been knocking on people’s doors, especially Samuel Miller District residents, to find out what’s on their minds.
According to Phinney, the biggest challenge facing the county is the tough economy, but, she says, it is the chance to “become as efficient as possible.”
Her current research deals with the use of energy-saving elements for residential and urban environments.
Phinney sits on the Board of Directors of Public Policy Virginia; she was awarded the “Ennie” Nash Grassroots award in 2007 by the Albemarle County Democratic Party, for which she has volunteered since 2003. She is the Democratic Precinct Chair for Red Hill.
Phinney will run against fellow Democract Madison Cummings and Independent John Lowry.
