As expected, county Supervisor Sally Thomas will not be running for re-election. Charlottesville Tomorrow reports that Thomas, who is finishing her fourth four-year term, made the announcement at the end of the Board of Supervisors meeting last night.
Thomas famously won her seat as the Samuel Miller district by a write-in campaign in 1993. Check out Charlottesville Tomorrow’s post for more details about Thomas’ background.
Two candidates have already emerged to vie for her seat in the November election: Democrat Madison Cummings and Independent John Lowry.
Sally Thomas tended to stick up for environmental interests when they conflicted with development, earning the ire of local players like Wendell Wood and the respect of organizations like the Piedmont Environmental Council.
