Sometimes, watching bricks can be, well, slow. Sure, masons are laying, electricians are wiring, construction workers are digging and demolitionizing…but it has been that way for exactly 71 days now, and we here at Brick Watch have become a wee bit (only a wee bit, we promise) desensitized to it all. But, according to Barton Malow Project Manager Chris Weatherford, the absence of big excitements isn’t a bad thing.
"No big things is good for us," said Weatherford. "As I like to say, [that means] everything is going according to plan." There’s really no big challenges for crews right now, and not only is that good for the construction crews, its good for you too, brickies. Right now, it’s looking very likely that the rebricking will be done by the April 25 deadline.
In fact, you can expect to see some final touches going in by the end of the month. "The bricks have been coming in, and we have been starting to get the pots in," said Weatherford. The pots to which he refers are new planters, some of which could go in by the end of the month. We should also see some tree grates and permanent lighting fixtures going in as well.
The most recent encouragement is the demolition of the 100 east block (where the Wachovia building is located), the final chunk of rebricking yet to be touched (its north side is already complete).
Happy St. Patty’s Day, brick lovers. May the bricks rise up to meet you.
Brick Watch’s cat wouldn’t cooperate like this one, so we had to settle for these stickers on bricks—brickers, as we like to call them—as our contribution to St. Patrick’s Day images.
