Virginia pitcher Will Roberts threw a perfect game Tuesday night at Davenport Field in Charlottesville against George Washington University. The twenty-seven out pitching mastery was the first perfect game ever recorded by a UVA pitcher, and just the second all-time in ACC history. Roberts also struck out ten George Washington batters.
The only other perfect game in conference was thrown by Maryland’s Dick Reitz in 1959. Wow, what an incredibly rare feat!
There had not been a perfect game in NCAA Division I baseball since 2002, and Roberts’ effort is one of only eight such games at this level since freaking 1952.
The 2-0 victory was also the 2,000th victory all-time by the Wahoo program.
“I had no idea what was going on," Roberts said of the celebration. "I felt people grabbing my legs and I had no idea what they were doing and then they lifted me up. I wasn’t really expecting that, but I have the best teammates in the nation. I am really happy for everybody. It is a team effort. It isn’t just me."
Congrats Will! Go Hoos!
