Virginia Men’s Basketball Beats Longwood 82-75

The Wahoos finished off Longwood for the first victory of shiny new coach Tony Bennett’s coaching tenure in Charlottesville. Virginia had five Hoos in double-figures. Landesberg was the high scorer for both teams as he finished the game with 23 points, 4 assists, and 3 turnovers. Surprisingly, highly-touted UVA freshman Tristan Spurlock only played 3 minutes in the first half, and did not score. The halftime score had Virginia on-top 49-27.

Virginia was without Assane Sene (suspended), and Jamil Tucker (leave of absence for personal reasons) for the game, but they were both in attendance this evening. I was also amazed that walk-on Will Sherrill did not play. In both of the practices I attended in person, he had much more of a role than he did tonight. But a DNP is not much of a role, that’s for sure! I was very surprised that Farrakhan played 31 minutes, as well. He shot the ball splendidly this evening, too. He finished the game 5-8 from the field, and 6-6 at the line with 17 points.

Virginia looked a little befuddled on both ends of the court tonight against a clearly outmatched foe this evening. The 1-0 Wahoos return to the hardwood Monday evening on the road against the University of South Florida in Tampa at 7:30 p.m. stats.washingtonpost.com/cbk/boxscore.asp
