September 08: Sun worship

If you want that bronzed look without lying poolside, you’ve got your tanning beds and your fake tan creams. And then there’s a rather different option: the Ceremony of the Sun treatment at Neroli Spa (984-3450). The heart of this $130 treatment is Elemis Total Glow Self Tan Treatment, a product that “works at a cellular level,” according to Neroli owner Suzanne Owen, to stimulate pigment production in the skin. In other words, it’s not a dye.

The spongy gloves help the technician apply the self-tan treatment evenly.

“In addition to the ingredient that stimulates the pigment, [the product contains] amino acids, vitamin E and macadamia nut oil that moisturizes the skin,” says Owen. “It promotes really healthy-looking skin, which is going to make the tan look better as well.”
Also included in this hour-long indulgence: full-body exfoliation with a dry brush made from cactus, and an exotic lime and ginger salt glow—both of which help ensure that your newly acquired bronze is as even as possible. After the tan treatment is applied, it’ll be a couple of hours before the bronze color appears. It lasts about five days, Owen says. And since Neroli sends you home with extra tan treatment—enough for six to 10 more applications—you can keep that inner glow going longer.
