It’s been a busy week for the City of Charlottesville, with new names in leadership and a jam-packed City Council agenda.
On September 14, former deputy director of Public Works Mike Goddard was named the interim Director of Neighborhood Development Services. He has worked for the city since 2015.
Two days later, India Adams-Jacobs was announced as the incoming assistant city manager. She is a new hire, but has experience in local, county, and state government—most recently serving as the town manager for Bowling Green. Her first day is September 28.
Wrapping up the week, City Council held its last meeting of the month on September 21. Highlights from the dais include an update on the Parks & Rec Master Plan, an annual report from the Historic Resources Committee, and a slate of appropriations for everything from bicycle programming to accessibility enhancement planning.

The University of Virginia football team fell 38-27 to West Virginia University on September 19, bringing an end to the Cavs’ season-starting win streak.
With the loss to the Mountaineers, UVA’s overall record for the season is 2-1. The Hoos remain 1-0 in conference play and do not have another ACC matchup until October 3.
The team plays Delaware at Scott Stadium on September 26, with kickoff set for 6pm.
Talking it out
Local leaders are coming together for the first Justice is Community Summit in Charlottesville on September 23 and 24. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature speakers including Del. Katrina Callsen, state Sen. Creigh Deeds, and restorative justice expert Howard Zehr.
