May 2009: Caught You Looking Sweet

Hailey Frances

Occupation: Good Morning Charlottesville news anchor on CBS 19
Where we spotted her: On the Downtown Mall
Style sense: Hailey rises at 3:30am every day before delivering the news. She designs her look herself, combining old and new, classic and seasonal. Here, she is wearing a vintage skirt from the JABA shop Twice is Nice, a Banana Republic top with an Ann Taylor Loft jacket, shoes from Rack Room, Betsey Johnson earrings she got as a gift, and sunglasses from hautelook.com.

Portia Albrecht

Occupation: Student at Tandem; Registered nurse and business owner
Where we spotted them: On the Downtown Mall
Style sense: This mother and daughter never hesitate to tell each other what looks good. Portia likes to stay classic and comfortable while Sara likes to be funky and fresh—and they both adore great shoes. Portia is wearing a J. Crew sundress, Coach shoes and Swarovski jewelry while Sara sports an Aéropostale sundress and Tommy Hilfiger shoes.

Mary-Frances "MF" Hoh

Occupation: Works at Studio Baboo
Where we spotted her: Baggby’s
Style sense: MF loves hats so much she says she’s incognito when she isn’t wearing one. She also enjoys bright colors and doesn’t shop for labels. Here she wears beaded coral, turquoise and pearls, a Chico’s long sleeve shirt and sweater, wraparound sunglasses and dangly earrings that were a gift from her boss, as well as a hat that was a present from a friend.

Charlotte Melkun

Occupation: UVA student and server at Zocalo
Where we spotted her: Barnes & Noble
Style sense: Charlotte’s laid-back style certainly doesn’t keep her from looking trendy. She’s wearing a Nordstrom jacket, a dress from Marshall’s, a purse that was a gift from her mother and a helmet from a friend’s co-worker.

Claudia Hall

Occupation: Retired VP at Nextel
Where we spotted her: On the Downtown Mall
Style sense: Claudia spent 30 years as a corporate executive in business suits, high heels and stockings—“not my natural way of dressing.” Now she’s loving the chance to try out more comfortable, funky clothes. She’s wearing a J. Jill jacket, Sigrid Olsen skirt, Eileen Fisher top, an Indian cotton scarf from an open-air market in Charleston, Rieker shoes, a Sigrid Olsen purse and a bag she bought while studying and living in France.
