January 2010: Instant Decorator

We don’t know about you, but here at Instant Decorator, we keep magazines lying around for months. (Being the crafting mavens we are, we just know that someday they’ll come in handy!) Luckily, this month’s craft puts them to good use. You can make this project exactly as we did, or come up with other things to decoupage. A box to hold all those extra magazines might be a good idea, no?—Caite White

Materials: Glass vase, magazine, Mod Podge.

Tools: Scissors, foam brush.

1. Cut strips out of the magazines (as thin or thick as you want).

2. Starting at the top, apply Mod Podge directly to the vase where you want to place your first strip of paper.

3. Work your way around the top of the vase and then begin a second layer, slightly overlapping the first. (Again, you can choose how much of each you want to show, or you can vary it.)

4. When the vase is covered, coat it once more, all over, with Mod Podge to give it a thicker, shinier finish. You can do this more than once, depending on the look you’re trying to achieve.

5. Enjoy!
