The Boyd Tinsley Fund at the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation has awarded $75,000 to city schools to support music, tennis and academic tutoring, according to a city schools press release.
The grant funds private music lessons for students of Walker, Buford and Charlottesville High School Orchestra, who would not be able to afford them otherwise.
The grant also helps to procure music supplies and instruments for graduating Charlottesville High School (CHS) students who enter a music program in college.
A portion of the money pay for tennis instructors, tennis camps and racquets for Walker and Buford students who complete a 2-day afterschool program. Part of the grant also funds private tutoring for those in need.
The Boyd Tinsley Fund, named for the Dave Matthews Band member and 1982 graduate of the Charlottesville High School Orchestra Program, awarded $75,000 to local schools to fund Tinsley’s two loves—tennis and music.
