At the Women for Deeds event last night, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds made a move the Washington Post said could energize the Democrats.
According to the Post, Deeds addressed the abortion issue and cited his Republican opponent’s record of trying to restrict abortions.
"It’s easy in an election year to talk a good game about the governor you’re going to be, and it’s easy to talk about jobs and bipartisanship, but I think it’s my obligation to draw distinctions where they exist," said Deeds at the event.
Republicans were quick to respond.
"Despite Creigh Deeds’s ongoing attempts to divide Virginians, Bob McDonnell will continue to talk about bringing Virginians together to create jobs and opportunity," said McDonnell spokesman Tucker Martin to the Post.
According to the article, McDonnell sponsored bills to terminate late-term abortions while a member of the General Assembly.
In the latest Daily Kos poll, out of 600 likely voters, 51 percent said they would vote for McDonnell and 43 percent for Deeds. Although McDonnell currently leads vote totals among men, 57 percent to 40 percent, Deeds leads among women voters, 46 percent to 45.
