The best of times: First day on the job. “When I first got here, I was immediately able to see many things that needed help. We were able to deal with obsolescence, upgrade, and even go green. We received a lot of support, and should be able to reduce power consumption by 70 to 80 percent.”
The worst of times: Present circumstances. “Right now is probably the toughest. The budget crunch is on, and it is stressful to anticipate having holes in our budget.”
Stangest moment: When spam attacks. “We had an outbreak of spamming on our machines. At one point 95 percent of our e-mail was spam. Who would want to spam Charlottesville? Now it’s back to about 95 percent real e-mail.”
If he were a superhero he’d be: Iron Man. “He’s basically an icon of IT. He’s not the strongest, and isn’t all that special of a man, but he uses well-designed technology to help the world.”
