White House claims stimulus package worth 8,000 jobs in 5th District

Although local companies are resorting to mandatory furloughs—notably GE Fanuc and Daily Progress’ parent company, Media General—according to the White House, the $789 billion stimulus package that was signed by President Obama on Tuesday will create 3.5 million jobs over the next two years.

And what does this mean for Virginia? According to an analysis from the White House, Virginia will see 93,000 new or saved jobs. The White House predicts that the Fifth Congressional District, which runs all the way from Charlottesville to Danville, will see 7,800 new or saved jobs.
