The race is on for the position of Albemarle Commonwealth’s attorney. Seasoned criminal defense lawyer Denise Y. Lunsford announced her bid for the county’s head prosecutor position. The Democrat will challenge four-time incumbent, Republican James L. Camblos, III. Lunsford has practiced locally for 17 years and says the prosecutor’s office is where she can do the most good for the community. If elected, she’d also offer some relief from Camblos’ trademark fashion sense—Lunsford prefers rad animal print handbags and snazzy heels to bowties. Murmurs of another Democratic candidate could not be confirmed by press time. Camblos is expected to again snag the Republican nomination. The election takes place in November.
