Virginia was completely embarrassed by Florida State 69-50 this evening in Charlottesville. Florida State earned their third ACC road win of the season, and kept their NCAA aspirations alive, and the Hoos lost their 4th straight ballgame. You could almost hear the air deflating from Virginia’s season tonight as Florida State just hammered the hapless Hoos.
Sylven Landesberg was benched for quite a few minutes in the second half by Tony Bennet for his lackluster play on the defensive side of the ball. In the first half an 11 point run for the Seminoles propelled them to a 33-24 lead at the break. Virginia was led by Jeff Jones who had 8 points in the first stanza, but he only scored 4 in the second half.
Virginia (14-10, 5-6) was fortunate to not lose this game by 40 points as they only shot an awful 18-48 (38%). Florida State shot 52% and were led not by big man Alabi, but sharp shooting and lightning-quick guard Chris Singleton who finished with 12 .The Seminoles had four players finish in double-figure and just appeared to want this game more than Virginia.
