Virginia Baseball Wins 5-3 over St. John’s / Up Next Oklahoma!

Virginia kept their postseason alive tonight by beating St. John’s 5-3 in front of an excellent and raucous crowd at Davenport Field. Brandon Kline earned the win for the Hoos, as he pitched 5.1 innings. Kline gave up 3 earned runs, struck out 5, walked 1 as he faced 21 batters. Virginia closer Kevin Arico threw 50 pitches in 3.2 innings, both career highs. Arico struck out 2, as allowed 5 hits.

The Hoos scored one run in each of the first four innings, and then one in the bottom of the seventh. Virginia’s left-fielder Phil Gosselin was 2-4 with 1 RBI. The Wahoos second-baseman Keith Werman continued his hot-streak as he was 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Steven Proscia also had a solid performance going 2-3 with 2 RBI’s. Franco Valdez also drove in one run on a 1-4 night at the plate.

The #5 national seed Wahoos have not made a single error in the field so far in the 2010 postseason.

Virginia will continue their season at home as they welcome the University of Oklahoma to Davenport Field for the Super Regional Round, which begins on Saturday. GO HOOS!
