VDOT removes Eastern Bypass from Rt. 29 study recommendations

VDOT has reportedly removed the Eastern Bypass from its recommendations in a study of the Route 29 corridor.

The proposed road connected Rt. 29 at Culpeper with I-64 in Keswick. The Eastern Bypass would have taken pressure off busy 29, said VDOT.

According to the Daily Progress, the decision to remove the road from the recommendations was made on October 15. One reason officials nixed the road was in order to focus on Rt. 29 itself.

“We are concentrating more on management of the existing facility,” said Charles Rasnick, VDOT’s project manager for the corridor.
