The roads of Albemarle County will likely get some love via American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or the stimulus bill.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) released a list of recommended projects to receive the stimulus funds. The list was compiled after citizens’ suggestions were submitted through Gov. Tim Kaine’s website stimulus.virginia.gov.
Fifth District Congressman Tom Perriello said the investment, about $20 million according to VDOT, will be of great value to district infrastructure.
“This is why I supported the stimulus – to make smart investments in our communities while providing a quick shot in the arm to the economy. I’m pleased to see the Kaine administration working quickly to assign the recovery act funds, and I will work hard to turn this list into shovels in the ground,” he said in a press release.
For the county, VDOT recommended pavement preservation and restoration projects on Routes 20, 29, 33, 53, and 250, all covering 42 miles, for a grand total of $4,848,000.
