UVA students in the School of Architecture spent the fall semester studying the city’s public housing sites. Now they’re ready to share a few thoughts from their work, including proposals for central meeting places that would help residents to access information, computers and other amenities.
UVA Today reports that the students in Professor Suzanne Morse Moomaw’s Neighborhood Planning Workshop class filed a final report entitled "Changing the Game for Public Housing Residents."
Yesterday, students presented their final research to the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA), where they received approval from the redevelopment committee to begin conversations with residents. Next semester, students will use this research to begin tracking the desires and needs of public housing residents.
CRHA has begun planning for redevelopment of each of its seven public housing sites. Last week, the consulting firm presented a draft of the master plan. A final draft is expected for sometime between late January and early February.
