Utility work continues next to Landmark Hotel

No, the Landmark Hotel on the Downtown Mall is not under construction.

But what’s all that construction? The City of Charlottesville has work underway to beautify the Second Street corridor. According to a city report, given that hotel construction is on hold, City Council approved the streetscaping project along the street this past July.

The $800,000 project includes storm sewer and utility work.

The city opted to take on the project that was originally meant to be done, with city money, by the hotel contractors.

"Beautify" is in the eye of the beholder, evidently.

Second Street is getting a makeover. The City of Charlottesville decided to take on the $800,000-project.
