The winners of the annual Guggenheim Fellowships were announced yesterday, and among them are two UVA staffers: professor, literary theorist and Uses of Literature author Rita Felski, and Virginia Quarterly Review Editor and Walt Whitman scholar Ted Genoways.
The average size of grants, founded in 1925 to reward "demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts," awarded in 2008 was over $43,000.
A C-VILLE news staffer who recently spoke with Genoways that the editor will step back from VQR for an issue to focus on continuing his Whitman scholarship. At that point, Nick Nichols and Andrew Owen, respectively the co-founder and operations director of the LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph, will guest-curate an issue of the acclaimed quarterly that focuses on emerging photographers.
