Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli continues to make national headlines after he sent a letter to state colleges and universities telling them that state law prohibits the addition of sexual orientation to school non-discrimination policies. Recently, TIME magazine picked up the story, and spoke with Cuccinelli.
he Attorney General told TIME that "the letter reaffirmed that ‘Virginia’s public universities are, at all times, subject to the control of the General Assembly.’" Since Cuccinelli mailed the letter, both UVA President John Casteen and Governor Bob McDonnell have made statements supporting the inclusion of "sexual orientation" in school non-discrimination policies.
TIME also spoke with Seth Kaye, president of the Queer and Allied Activism group at UVA. "We are being singled out," he said. "People are upset. It’s really frustrating."
