Just in time for spooky season, another wicked thing this way comes—or at least comes to the American Shakespeare Center. Not to be confused with Robert Eggers’ 2015 dark comedy film debut, The Witch retells the 1621 play The Witch of Edmonton with echoes of Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita and Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. The Devil, played by K.P. Powell, tries to snatch the soul of outcast Elizabeth Sawyer (Sara J. Griffin), but beguiles the townspeople who condemned her. $35–75, times vary. Blackfriars Playhouse, 105 S. Market St., Staunton. americanshakespearecenter.com
