Men can cook
On Saturday, April 14 from 5:30 to 10:30pm at the Omni, more than 60 amateur cooks show their skills at the 25th anniversary of the Monticello Area Community Action Agency’s Men Who Cook! gala benefit. Sample gourmet fare, dance to live music, and bid on everything from a beach house to a week at Massanutten, all while donating to a charity that helps eliminate poverty in our community. Tickets cost $100 and black ties are optional. Call 295-3171 for tickets.
Pub it up
Buck’s Elbow Pub opened last week in Crozet’s Old Trail Golf Clubhouse. Seating 60 indoors and 35 on the outdoor terrace (complete with views of Buck’s Elbow Mountain and King Family Vineyard), it offers a full bar and standard American pub fare accented with local options like a “local beef-of-the-week burger” and Crissanne Raymond’s NoBull veggie burgers. On Mondays, when so many other restaurants are closed, try Buck’s Elbow, where appetizers are $7, kids under 7 eat free, and folks in their 70s receive a free dessert with an entrée. Lucky day, lucky number.
Ready, set, slurp
Local oysters get their day to shine on Saturday, April 21 (or the following day if rain outshines the sun) at The Blue Ridge Oyster Festival at Devils Backbone Brewing Company from 1 to 7pm where good eats, good drinks, good music, good scenery, and good company guarantee a good time. Catch more coverage on the beloved bivalves next week, but for now, get your tickets in advance ($10 in advance, $15 at the door) or for high-rolling slurpers, reserve your VIP Mobjack Lounge Package at blueridgeoysterfest.com.
