Semolina closed?
Following its shuttering in early December, we were hopeful Raif Antar’s pizza spot, Semolina, was simply closed for Christmas break. But, after it was closed for Valentine’s and St. Patrick’s Day break, too, we contacted the restaurant’s former manager, Rebecca Deeds, who confirmed that she split in early December. Calls to Antar have not been returned, and the restaurant has been dark for three months—almost as long as it had been open for business. Stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks.
You’ll get your fish
Smell that? A new CSA of sorts, a Community Supported Fishery, kicks off April 2 with a City Market drop-off spot. The brainchild of UVA architecture school grad students Jack Cochran and Doug Dickerson, the Cville CSF offers five share options beginning at $66 each, including catfish, large shrimp, rainbow trout and the like, from Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Virginia Aqua-Farmers Network. Funds for farms
Protect your right to bear farms. Visit Cville Coffee Tuesday, March 29 for a Chapter 6 networking event and fundraiser to support the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund, which is interested in the rights of family farms and their customers. Nosh on food from Rapture, Baja Bean Co. and Harrisonburg’s Earth & Tea Cafe and enjoy music from local jazz singer Veronica Swift.
That’s not all. Polyface farmer and über food activist Joel Salatin will provide the keynote speech.
