Sixth Republican files for Perriello’s Congressional seat

And there were six. This morning, Republican State Senator Robert Hurt (Pittsylvania) filed to seek election to the Fifth District Congressional seat currently held by Tom Perriello.

“Over the last few months, I have met with many residents and Republican leaders across the Fifth District. I have come away from these meetings struck by the urgent sense among our people that if the current course of this great country is not quickly changed, we will soon be left with a nation of more government, more taxes, fewer jobs, and even fewer liberties,” he said in a press release.

Hurt said that although the urgency is real, he will wait to formally announce his intention to run after the November elections. “The Republican team will bring renewed conservative leadership to Richmond,” he said.

Hurt joins fellow Republicans Bradley Rees, Michael McPadden, Feda Kidd Morton, Laurence Verga, and Ken Boyd, all running for the same seat.
