“Resilient, talented, and ambitious”—that’s how UVA president Jim Ryan described the 2025 graduating class, a group of coeds he got to know more closely than some, thanks to his weekly Run With Jim events, in an Instagram post following the final run. UVA launched the First-Year Run With Jim—a two-mile jog around Grounds—in 2021, when the now-fourth-years began their time at UVA. On their last run in early May, a record-setting 1,900 students were in attendance to hit the pavement with Ryan, a longtime runner who had recently completed the Boston Marathon for the 14th time and who, only a couple of months later, would announce his resignation.
