Rob Schilling, a former Republican Councilor and host of “The Schilling Show,” recently sent a Freedom of Information request to the City of Charlottesville. In his request, Schilling asks for the complete list of contact names and e-mail addresses used by the city to distribute City Council agendas and meeting notices.
"I have been troubled for a long time by Charlottesville government claiming that it is an open and transparent government, and all of their lists coming out of Charlottesville City, Charlottesville City Schools and the Charlottesville Clerk’s office send out to blind copy lists," Schilling tells C-VILLE. "And I am wondering what the secret is."
"If you compare and contrast this to Albemarle County, Lee Catlin and Maury Brown always send out an open list," says Schilling. "I am very suspicious of a government that claims to be open and transparent and refuses to divulge the information."
Schilling says he previously sent requests to Clerk of Council Paige Barfield without success. "So, today, I changed it into a FOIA," he says. Calls to Barfield were not immediately returned.
