The around-the-block lines of the morning have melted in the midday rain. At Recreation precinct in the City of Charlottesville, there was no wait to vote a few moments ago. Ditto for Tonsler and Alumni Hall. There was a small lunchtime crowd at Venable, with an emphasis on the word small.
The lines at Tonsler precinct were nonexistent.
At Eppie’s, however, the crowd was out the door.
The line at Eppie’s circa 12:30pm.
Voter turnout was heavy this morning, however. In Albemarle County, 26.1 percent of registered voters had already cast their ballots by 9am. In the city, about 22 percent of voters had. New numbers for voters by 1pm should be available in the next hour.—With additional reporting by Brendan Fitzgerald and Chiara Canzi
