Likely $50,000 or more reward in still-missing VT student

Virginia State Police called a press conference today to  address speculation about the current missing person investigation.

Morgan Dana Harrington, 20, went missing on Saturday, Oct. 17 in the vicinity of the John Paul Jones Arena during a Metallica concert.

Lt. Joe Rader of the State Police said that her purse and cell phone were recovered by a passerby on Sunday morning and turned in to UVA Police. Rader said there were not visible signs of struggle.

The purse was found in a small parking lot between JPJ and the athletic fields. Rader said State Police are not yet ready to disclose or talk about phone records at this time.

There will likely be a $50,000 or more reward for any information about the current missing person investigation. Details will be available tomorrow.

Yet, Rader offered a few more details at the press conference: Harrington left her friends to go to the restrooms and “she wound up outside of the arena.” Because JPJ has a no re-entry policy, Harrington contacted her friends to tell them she would not be able to reenter the arena.

Rader said they have received more than 100 calls with information, and about 20 percent of those required immediate follow-up.

There won’t be any additional air searches and the ground search that is currently underway will conclude within the next hour.

Rader urged the public to use the new tip line: 434-352-3467.
