A large crowd gathered at the intersection of West Main and Fourth streets to pay tribute to Matthew King, the UVA graduate student who died after his bicycle collided with a city public works truck at the intersection on Monday morning.
Friends, city elected officials, UVA professors and deans, bicyclists and pedestrians shared stories about King and called for a better understanding between bicyclists and drivers. Mayor Dave Norris told the crowd that the “tragic” accident is a reminder of “what more can we be doing” to make the streets of Charlottesville safer.
According to the website of King’s church, All Souls, a funeral will be held on Saturday in Summerville, South Carolina.
