With little fanfare and almost no attention paid, state climatologist Patrick Michaels quit his post at UVA this past June, Bob Gibson of The Daily Progress reported last week. Michaels is perhaps best known for his very vocal skepticism of global warming, arguing that humans had no effect on climate change. “We know how much the planet is going to warm,” he told Business Week in 2004. “It is a small amount, and we can’t do anything about it.”
Michaels has said that his resignation was a result of the politicization of his funding sources, which he had refused to disclose when called as an expert witness for the auto industry. He later withdrew as a witness. His books include Shattered Consensus: The True State of Global Warming, Meltdown: The Predictable Distortion of Global Warming by Scientists and, a title that surely belongs in the fart joke hall of fame, The Satanic Gases: Clearing the Air about Global Warming.
