Heat wave continues in Charlottesville and Albemarle with high temperatures and higher humidity

Another day of blistering heat on the horizon. At 9:10am the temperature already hit 84 degrees and the humidity will play a factor today.

The City of Charlottesville announced that the Key Recreation Center downtown will be open as a cooling center beginning at 11am today for those without Air Conditioning or electricity.

The city also offers tips to beat the heat and the CASPCA has tips to care for pets in the summer months.

Meanwhile at UVA, Facilities Management asks employees to reduce the energy load by turning off nonessential lights and equipment. With increasing heat comes increased usage.

“We don’t want to impede anybody’s work,” said Armando deLeon, sustainability programs manager at Facilities Management, according to UVA Today news blog. “But if people could turn off non-essential lights and equipment they would not only be helping the University but the entire state.”

The heat was already blamed for a Philadelphia woman’s death who was found dead in her bed. She was 92.
