On the New York Times’ Dot Earth blog, a good primer on Obama’s choice for Energy Secretary, Steven Chu. Watch the video of Chu speaking, or just let me give you the highlights: Number one, Chu seems to take climate change seriously, for serious. Number two, he tells it like it is concerning our energy-gobbling society and the fact that regulations can actually force industries to build better stuff. Number three, he’s worthy of the Obama team in the sense that he’s really damn smart. (You kinda have to be to win a Nobel Prize and run the Lawrence Berkeley Lab.) Other blogs out there seem pleased.
From the AP, a story that’s no less sad for being kind of poetic: Whales and dolphins can’t hear each other anymore, because of noisy human activity. Talk about unfair.
And finally, from the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star, an indictment of commute times in some not-so-far-away counties, including Orange and Fauquier. It could happen here, people. Get a bike.
