Flex your face

If sit-ups can give you killer abs, then why can’t facial exercises give you an awesome jawline? Cynthia Fahringer, owner of The Natural Face Studio and promoter of the concept of “intelligent beauty,” wants you to take an active role in the preservation of your face rather than choosing “more passive options of going to a spa or getting Botox,” as she says.

Cynthia Fahringer demonstrates one exercise she teaches: a lower lid lift that tones the area under the eye. Keeping forehead muscles soft, widen eyes and lift lower lids 10 times. On the 10th time hold up, bring upper lids down to “rest” on lower lids and hold for a count of 20. Slowly release. Repeat at least three times in succession, twice a day, for two weeks.

Facial lines are related to musculature, so Fahringer helps clients to “feel the range of patterns in expression leading to contours,” encouraging relaxation and circulation. A series of 1-5 sessions will address your individual trouble spots, such as the line between the brows, with personalized exercises in a specific sequence. Before-and-after pictures will illuminate the difference after two weeks of practicing your program at stop-lights.

Hour-long introductory sessions start at $75, with individual and maintenance programs costing $300-350. Call Fahringer at 284-0423 or visit thenaturalfacestudio.com.
