Finally, a class in guerilla knitting at a reasonable price point!

Since I haven’t written about the Charlottesville Trade School yet on this blog, I’ll defer C-VILLE’s Brendan Fitzgerald, who described in the school in his piece on how Charlottesville thinks:

"CTS, which posts a schedule at cvilletradeschool.com and hosts classes at a variety of spaces, doesn’t charge admission. Instead, says [founder Marie] Schacht, participants offer their skills and expertise as commodities: ‘What do I have that’s teachable?’ Students barter with teachers to attend classes, and offer things like mix CDs or a home-cooked meal as payment. Classes are held wherever space is offered."

I’ve been keeping my eyes on the School’s website, waiting with baited breath for the moment when they’d update their next round of classes. On tap this season? New City Arts’ Maureen Lovett leads a class on "Knitting and Other Guerilla Activities." (Whoa.) Guerilla knitting. Probably a really expensive course, right?

Wrong. Next time you’re at a coffee shop or restaurant, pay for the person in line behind you—then you’re all set. Other classes lined up for now include "OMG Printmaking" and a four-session how-to guide to Adobe Illustrator. See the schedule and a list of past classes here.

Should UVA let its students barter for credit hours?
