Drought watch '07

Art by Josh Rhett

It may have rained, but it still needs to pour. Continuing to track local water levels following the drought watch declared in late July, C-VILLE checked in with the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA) to see how streams and reservoirs were looking. RWSA Director Tom Frederick told us that, though weekend thunderstorms had improved things slightly—stream levels were at 23 percent of normal, up from 18 percent a week earlier—conditions are still significantly dry and the drought watch will stand. The Sugar Hollow Reservoir is now 4′ below full. Stay tuned for weekly updates on "Drought Watch ’07."
