 Scott Deke, UVA’s third string quarterback last year, put himself in an excellent position to possibly start in the fall after completing 17 of 23 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns in the spring scrimmage on April 12. There are plenty of other open spots for ambitious athletes: In addition to graduating studs like defensive end Chris Long (along with nine other starting seniors) and losing left guard Branden Albert to the NFL draft, the Cavaliers miss several key players because of either academics, misbehavior or “undisclosed” reasons. Those include quarterback Jameel Sewell, defensive end Jeffrey Fitzgerald, cornerback Chris Cook and linebacker J’Courtney Williams. |
