And we’re off! The Downtown Mall rebricking has officially begun. Currently, the construction is taking up most of Central Place, blocking the view from Pearl, Cha-Chas, Petit Pois and ZoCaLo. But, according to Pearl employee Mary Dowd, it hasn’t been bothersome so far, apart from the whys and wherefores.
"I was nonplussed when I found out they were going to do this," she says. "I mean, why now? This is a hard enough time for retail as it is."
