Good morning, brick-ups. We hope you’ve had a pot of coffee and worked off that St. Patty’s hangover. After last week’s Dublin-themed party, the Downtown Business Association’s city-funded parties (AIG executives everywhere know, it’s fun to party on the government’s dollar) are taking a week off. So, with no themed block party to pick on this week, guess we’ll have to talk about the Downtown renovation project again. Drats.
Brick Watch was excited to see some tree-workers from the Big O Tree and Lawn Service doing some arboreal maintenance around our beloved willow oaks at the 500 block. When BW asked them what was going on, they told us they were just checking up on the trees’ health before grates and bricks are placed around the root structures of the trees.
BW also found some workers doing some demo on the 500 and 200 east blocks. In fact, the entrance to CVS has all but disappeared. When Brick Watch walked by this morning, there was a footbridge guiding pedestrians.
The mystery manhole was causing some delays at the Third Street crossing, Barton Malow Project Manager Chris Weatherford told us yesterday. "We had to move it five or six feet, just to make everything work together," said Weatherford. The manhole move left a hole ten feet deep! But fear not, dear brickies. Brick Watch saw workers filling in the hole this morning.
Here’s a (sickeningly short) video for your Wednesday enjoyment.
