Pollstar announced that Darius Rucker, frontman for epitomal ’90s bar band Hootie & the Blowfish, plans to drop by The Paramount Theater on March 19. I won’t ask whether you plan to go because it’s a moot point—most of you are already going.
Here’s the thing: Rucker seems to be incapable of writing songs that the general public dislikes. He and the Blowfish sold more than 16 million copies of Cracked Rear View, and the singer’s recent solo album, Learn to Live, features the first single by a black artist to top the country charts in 20 years. (Not a small feat, given the debatable "Hootie" stigma. More impressive because of it, really.)
Hell, there are even fierce and impassioned defenders of the jingle Rucker performed for Burger King. So save your pennies for Rucker’s gig. Or a tender, crisp bacon cheddar ranch.
Or Dave Matthews Band tickets? According to WeeklyDavespeak.com, we’re hours away from an announcement about DMB’s Spring 2009 tour dates. Until the announcement, I suggest that you pass the time by watching Kanye West try to sing sans Autotune on "Saturday Night Live." Keep your tone locked down, people.
