This morning at roughly 9:30am, you may have noticed a few Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) vehicles around the Water Street Parking Garage:
You may have also noticed a bit of yellow tape surrounding one of the elevator columns at the base of the garage, below this window:
While messages to the CPD have not been returned yet, city spokesman Ric Barrick tells C-VILLE that a man was recognized by a police officer on the Downtown Mall as the subject of "numerous outstanding warrants." Barrick says the officer pursued the man on foot and into the Water Street garage, where he hid under a car.
"He was apprehended without a weapon used," says Barrick. We’ll see what we can learn about that bullet-shaped hole in the window, above. Currently, the city seems well on its way to repairing the window, and has removed the cracked glass.
UPDATE: According to a shift sargeant with the CPD, the broken window was not connected to the suspect apprehended this morning, and there is no cause known as of yet.
