A total of 66 local nonprofits are recipients of some slice of $536,000 from the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (CACF). The CACF recently announced a round of grants from the Community Endowment and the Bama Works Fund of Dave Matthews Band totaling $280,000 and $256,600, respectively.
Among the local nonprofits who received grants from the Community Endowment are the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program, which received $10,000 for its Emergency Home Repair Program; the Arc of the Piedmont $4,000; the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA), whose $10,000 grant will go towards a salary for a Resident Services Coordinator; the International Rescue Committee, which received $10,000 for low-cost immigration services; and $10,000 for the Books Behind Bars program administered by the Quest Institute.
Organizations that received awards from the Bama Works Fund include the Albemarle County Adult Education Program ($7,000); the Blue Ridge Medical Center ($12,500); the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA ($5,000); Computer4Kids ($7,500); and the Local Food Hub for the garden at Buford Middle School ($9,200).
