“America’s Next Top Model”
Wednesday 8pm, CW

We’re down to the Final Five of Cycle 12, and I never thought I’d say this, but I miss Tahlia. Not because the burn victim was a good model—she’s the least modelesque contestant this show has ever had. I miss her because without the drama she inspired, this season is a real snoozer. Things picked up about midway through when Celia gloriously threw Tahlia under the bus at panel, but after an explosive house showdown the next episode, things got dull again. Hopefully the girls’ overseas trip to spicy Brazil will awaken the hellcats within. Of the remaining chicks, I love creepy, doll-faced Allison, think Celia oozes high fashion (but her granny neck will give her trouble), and am completely smitten with diminutive spitfire Fo. But popular opinion has alien-esque Teyona taking it all. I just don’t see it.

“Party Down”
Friday 10pm, Starz

Low-tier movie station Starz has been angling to become the next HBO or Showtime by introducing a slate of original programming. While much of it has landed with a thud, this comedy is gaining some traction. “Party Down” follows six aspiring showbiz types toiling away as Hollywood cater-waiters. Each episode features them working a different event, frequently interacting with guest stars like Marilu Henner or Ed Begley, Jr. It’s funnier than it sounds. The cast is solid, led by Adam Scott (“Tell Me You Love Me”), Jane Lynch (Best In Show; should be way more famous at this point), and Lizzy Caplan (great in Season One of “True Blood”).

“Tough Love”
Sunday 8pm, VH1

“Tough Love” is a very different reality dating show. There are no eliminations. There are no “villains.” There’s no washed-up playboy for the women to fake fight over. Instead it’s a boot camp for women who cannot seem to find a serious relationship. Professional matchmaker Steve Ward (so yummy) tries to work with the ladies on breaking their bad dating habits and working out their personal bullshit. Some of his methods may be a bit suspect—in the interest of making good TV, I think things can get a little humiliating for the women—but if you’re single the show can be a real eye-opener. And damned if I’m not secretly rooting for all these ladies to find happiness by this week’s finale.
