The Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors released its market report for the first quarter of 2008, and while residential properties are moving, they’re not selling for what owners might anticipate.
UVA announced this morning that its Dean of Admission, John Blackburn, will retire one year from now in June 2009. He’s been the university’s longest-serving admissions dean, having held the position since 1985. Blackburn was also an associate dean of admissions for six years before taking the reins of the admissions office. He is 66 years old.
Three UVA baseball players have been selected in this year’s Major League Baseball Draft, reports the Daily Progress. David Adams, who played second base for UVA, was picked up by the New York Yankees in the third round of the draft. In the fifth round the Baltimore Orioles picked up shortstop Greg Miclat and the Atlanta Braves selected pitcher Jacob Thompson. The players, all third-years, will pass up their final year of eligibility at UVA once they sign contracts with their respective teams.
Meals on Wheels of Charlottesville- Albemarle is finding it difficult to recruit volunteer drivers for its meal delivery service, according to a press release sent out today. The program is trying to keep costs down by splitting delivery routes, but that requires an increase in volunteers.

Army Colonel Mark Moffatt gave the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors an update today about the expansion at the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC), almost doubling the number of employees who work at the facility on Boulders Road off Route 29 North.
