Hi, friends!
Here’s a few stories that couldn’t otherwise wouldn’t have had a home in this week’s C-VILLE.
- The syringe that delivered Michael Jackson his fatal dose of propofol is going to auction for $5 million. Viva Las Vegas!
- A column from Feedback’s home state of New Jersey provides some interesting insight into the state of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—e.g., they’re running out of people to put in there. Remember, folks, Dave Matthews Band isn’t eligible until 2013.
- Billboard reports that Universal is going to implement a new front-line pricing strategy that will put CDs in a very reasonable $6-10 price range, which is still more expensive than the zero dollars that most people are accustomed to spending.
- Former Charlottesville resident Rob Sheffield wrote a stirring tribute to Memphis legend Alex Chilton in Rolling Stone. Chilton was in Big Star and the Box Tops and had an excellent solo career all his own. He died this week at the age of 59, apparently of a heart attack, on his way to South by Southwest. Sheffield writes: "I didn’t witness that show in Roanoke. I heard about it from a Virginia girl I met in a bar, when the bartender put on Radio City. We both recognized the album, so we traded stories about Chilton shows we’d seen. A couple years later, we played Big Star’s ‘Thirteen’ as the first dance at our wedding. Thank you for everything, Alex Chilton. You will always be the blue moon in the dark."
Does this guy rock, or what? Steve Cohen (D) of Tennessee’s Ninth District honors Chilton in the House.
Diddy sez: Have a great weekend!
