Virginia’s pitchers just didn’t have it tonight. Winner of Monday’s game heads to the College World Series in Omaha to face South Carolina on Saturday.
The Hoos received another strong performance from starting pitcher Danny Hultzen as they beat OU at Davenport Field 3-2. There was a nasty 2 hour rain-delay that brought out the tarps.
Virginia closer Kevin Arico threw 50 pitches and earned the save, as the Hoos were able to shut down the St. John’s bats. The Hoos will play Oklahoma Saturday for the right to go back to the College World Series in Omaha.
Jeremy Baltz was the hero for St. John’s as he came through in the clutch and hit two home runs. There will be a decisive game tomorrow with the same two teams starting at 6 p.m.
Virginia Athletic Director Craig Littlepage put the rumors to rest this morning as he sent the message out through the UVA SID office announcing that Coach Starsia will be back next season.
The Hoos won their 49th game of the baseball season as staff ace Danny Hultzen improved his team leading record to 10-1.
Virginia received a huge day from John Hicks and Tyler Cannon as they won big today at Davenport Field. The Hoos will face the winner of the Ole Miss/VCU game Saturday at 6 p.m.
The four-team, double-elimination tournament will run June 4-7 at UVa’s Davenport Field. Two games each will be played Friday (June 4), Saturday (June 5) and Sunday (June 6). If necessary, a single game will be played Monday (June 7). Game times will be announced Monday.
