Virginia (51-13) lost a slugfest tonight in Charlottesville against the visiting Oklahoma Sooners 10-7. The Hoos starting pitcher Robert Morey only faced thirteen batters before he was removed after giving up six earned runs. Morey hit one Oklahoma batter, and walked three as he had one of his most disappointing efforts of the season tonight.
Oklahoma (48-16) received two homers and five RBI’s from the number five hitter Cody Reine. Fantastic freshman Max White also went yard for the Sooners.
Jack Mayfield earned the win in relief as he faced eighteen Wahoo batters, struck out two, walked two, and gave up three earned runs. Set-up man Jeremy Erban closed things out for the Sooners as he gave up only one hit in 2.2 innings pitched. Erban pitched so well that Oklahoma closer Ryan Duke was able to stay in the bullpen resting his arm for Monday’s all-important game three.
The winner of Monday’s game three will head to Omaha for the College World Series. The game will start at 7 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2 Go Hoos!
